During the late 70s, Lonnie Smith fared a lot better than some of his late 60s jazz organ contemporaries. He had a lean style that adapted itself well to the decade's increasing use of electric keyboards and larger backings – and an album like this, one of the better ones to come out of the LC/Sonny Lester post-Groove Merchant stable, is proof that Lonnie could work well under nearly all circumstances. Sure, the groove's a bit smoother here – and some cuts have vocals – but overall, there's some nice funky moments, in a tight slicky fusiony kind of way. Titles include "Funk Reaction", "For The Love Of It", "It's Changed", and "When The Night Is Right".
