Fumio Karashima - Piranha 1977

Born in Oita in 1948. On the occasion of performing with Elvin Jones (ds) in 1978, Karashima became a member of Elvin Jones Jazz Machine in 1980 and played in the band for six years. Since then, he had been actively performing in worldwide jazz scene in the U.S. and Europe, and established a solid position as one of the top pianists in the world. He has released 26 leader albums by now. In recent years, he has released his collaboration work with Jack DeJohnette (ds) "Great Time", his standard solo album "Moon River" in which he played a Fazioli piano known as the best piano manufactured in Italy, and his tribute album to Elvin Jones "E. J. Blues - Fumio Karashima meets Takeo Moriyama". He has co-performed with the three greatest drummers Elvin Jones, Tony Williams and Jack DeJohnette, and has recorded his co-performances with them on albums. He won the 31st Nanri Fumio Award of the year 2005. He is one of the top jazz pianists in Japan.
