The nonet with the master trumpeter is sometimes funky, spacy, or swinging, but always potent. On this LP with Roy Brooks, Wendell Harrison, Harold McKinney and Phil Ranelin, the band sounds twice its size due to the expansive compositional stance of the leader. AMG.
