David Batteau made his first record, Batteaux, in 1974 for Columbia Records. Although he would record albums for A&M Records, Atlantic Records and Epic Records, as well, his career would lead him to have a greater influence on the music industry as a songwriter than as an artist.
His first hit song, “Tell Her She’s Lovely”, was taken from his first record and re-recorded by El Chicano. It went to #1. His songs since that time have contributed to the sales of over 40 million records. His songs have been recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Chaka Khan, Trisha Yearwood, Donna Summer, Shawn Colvin, Manhattan Transfer, Dolly Parton, Robert Palmer, Ghostface Killah, Sergio Mendes, David Sanborn, Seals and Crofts, Art Garfunkel, New Edition, Wilson Phillips, Mavis Staples, Jermaine Jackson, The Temptations, Spanky and Our Gang, Toni Childs, Pablo Cruise and many, many others.
Recent releases have included Grammy nominated Luciana Souza, American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle, Grammy nominated Madeleine Peyroux and Grammy nominated Raul Midon. 2011 releases include actress and singer Rebecca Pidgeon, Latin Music Award nominated Gaby Moreno and Grammy nominated Madeleine Peyroux. 2011 writing includes an album’s worth of material for Israel’s top recording artist, Idan Raichel and an album’s worth of material for one of Sweden’s leading recording artists, Anna Bergendahl.
