Judy Henske & Jerry Yester - Farewell Aldebaran 1969

One of the most interesting and worthwhile psychedelic one-shots of the late '60s was Farewell Aldebaren by pop-folk singer Judy Henskeand Jerry Yester, the latter of whom had been in the Association and (in their dying days) the Lovin' Spoonful; the album was produced byYester and original Spoonful guitarist Zal Yanovsky. Released on Frank Zappa's Straight! label in 1969, it showcased Henske's wonderfully full-throated and versatile voice on a wide range of eccentric material, encompassing lighthearted folk-rock, gothic ballads, and synthesizer weirdness. The enigmatic production was reminiscent of some of Van Dyke Parks and Brian Wilson's more adventurous work. Baroque music filtered through acid rock-colored glasses, its shimmering textures coat an uneasy restlessness. None of the parties involved ever came close to matching the inspired weirdness of this record again, thoughHenske and Yester were part of a band called Rosebud. AMG.
